Early Morning Walk

The weather Memorial Day weekend was picture perfect! I took advantage by getting outside each day for walk. The clouds over the mountains may look like rain was heading my way, but not one drop fell.

Our Heroes

Another cemetery I visited Monday is called Mountain View.  I had never actually walked into this cemetery before. What a breathtaking view of the Cascade Mountains! The American flag and the POW/MIA flag were flying right next to a Vietnam Memorial. My oldest brother is a Vietnam veteran and I had mentioned in my post Monday […]

A Peaceful Spot for Remembering

I often pass a couple of different cemeteries while road biking.  I decided for the first time to visit these cemeteries on Memorial Day this year.  On this day and other patriotic holidays, cemeteries become a sea of red, white & blue. Flags are placed at gravesites, landscape work is completed, and many come just […]

Memorial Day 2018

Today is  Memorial Day, May 28, 2018. Most people will be celebrating the three-day weekend to start the summer season. Some may spend time with family and friends enjoying nice weather outside, recreating, and having a BBQ.  Some may attend a Memorial Day event or concert, decorate with flags, or share a meal with friends/family to […]

The Science Behind Nature Sound Relaxation

Researchers at Brighton and Sussex Medical School in England used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans on study participants while they listened to a series of five-minute soundscapes of natural and manmade environments. Leaving Kauai

On the last day of most vacations, you want to do all of those things that made the trip so special.  Visiting Hawaii,  I want to eat the local foods of the islands, walk on the beach, play in the surf, and watch that one last sunset. The last morning on Kauai I sliced up […]

The Flowers of Hawaii

When you step onto any of the Hawaiian Islands you will smell and see the most beautiful  tropical flowers. It seems like the iconic Hawaiian flower is the Bird of Paradise, but my favorite by far is the Plumeria.  The heavenly scent from the velvety petals of this flower is amazing.  I biked past this […]

Palm Trees in Paradise

The weather was windy, with some sprinkles each day I was on Kauai. The sound of the palm fronds slapping each other in a stiff breeze is very distinct. There is nothing quite like listening to the surf as you drift off to sleep or awaken from a very restful snooze. And then as the […]
