In Time magazine’s The New Science of Exercise (Sept 1/Sept. 19, 2016) by Mandy Oaklander, these are the numbers reported for our physical activity level (or I should say lack of physical activity):
- only 20% of Americans get the recommended 150 minutes of strength and cardiovascular physical activity per week
- more than half of all baby boomers report doing no exercise at all
- 80.2 million Americans over age 6 are entirely inactive
In my blog last month, I suggested that September was the perfect month for developing health and wellness resolutions, including micro resolutions for moving more. Remember if you have been sedentary and are starting a new more vigorous physical fitness routine, be sure and check with your doctor first.
