My Halloween pumpkins

Happy Halloween!  One of my favorite things to plant in my garden are pumpkins.  This year one of the vines climbed straight up and a pumpkin grew between the wood and wire fencing. Pumpkins are more than a Halloween decoration or the quintessential Thanksgiving pie. ~Pumpkins are filled with the refueling nutrient potassium ~Pumpkins have […]

Leaving Kauai

The last night I spent on Kauai, I saw this moon.  It was obscured by a cloud so I was actually able to take a photograph. It reminded me of how Edie loved to sit out on her front porch and watch the moon on clear evenings. I saw so many breathtaking views on my March […]

Wine on the deck

When I was heading to Hawaii right after my mom passed away, I felt very disconnected. Sitting on a deck gazing out at sunsets on Kauai, listening only to the sound of the crashing surf on the shore, was how I began the healing process. Yes, I felt the presence of amazing Edie.

Eat Local

There is nothing quite like slicing up a fresh pineapple while sitting in the sun in Hawaii.  It tastes so juicy and sweet, but it is very easy to overeat. According to the Mayo Clinic’s site, it is easy to confuse a food allergy with a much more common reaction known as food intolerance. While […]

Dinner by the sea

My mom loved the plumeria flower.  On our March trip to Kauai, it seemed as if she had ordered them just for me in her memory, because they were everywhere!  The plumeria flower’s intoxicating scent and beautiful colors make it the perfect flower for the Hawaiian lei. We went out to dinner at a restaurant […]

Have you ever seen or eaten wing beans?  I had not […]

Biking on Kauai

The first time I had done biking on Kauai was on this March 2017 visit.  We rented some very nice Kona rode bikes from Outfitters Kauai and biked around the Poipu area. Spending days relaxing and moving was good for the soul. I felt the presence of my mom. We also took the bikes up to a […]

Walking/Hiking in Hawaii

Another great feature of the Kauai Grand Hyatt is its proximity to the south side of the island.  It is a beautiful walk to visit Poipu’s beaches or head over in the evening to Brenneke’s Beach Broiler and listen to some live music. I thought of my mom when I walked past this umbrella with no […]

Swimming in Hawaii

The Kauai Hyatt has a very large sand-salt water pool that is perfect for swimming laps.  It lies between the hotel and the ocean and it was one of the reasons I love to go back and stay at this property. First you heat up on the beach and then you jump in the water […]
